The instructions below guide you through the process of backing up QuickBooks on a regular basis, such as at a regular time and day each week. From the QuickBooks File menu select Save Copy or Backup.
Select Backup Copy and click Next.
Select Local backup and Options (assuming you haven't already done so).
Choose the folder you want to save your backup file in. I recommend saving it on a different computer than your company file is saved on. Then review the default values in the other fields and change them if necessary. Click OK.
Click Next. Select Only Schedule Future Backups and then click Next.
Click New in the QuickBooks Save Backup:When window.
See below for a list of the things you need to do in the QuickBooks Schedule Backup window.
The scheduled backup now appears in the Schedule Backups section. Click Finish and OK to the messagebox that appears. It is important to note that the computer QuickBooks is saved on must be on and the QuickBooks file must not be in use at the time of the scheduled backup. If you would rather schedule automatic backups when you close your QuickBooks company file, see Backing Up Your QuickBooks Company File When Closing QuickBooks.
