QuickBooks provides a conversion tool which enables you to directly and easily convert Peachtree data folders to QuickBooks company files. In the conversion process your Peachtree data is converted to a new QuickBooks company. Your original Peachtree data files are not changed.
The Requirements
In order to convert Peachtree files to QuickBooks company files, you must meet the following requirements:
- QuickBooks 2006 or later (must be registered)
- A Peachtree program (versions 2001-2007, all verticals except Quantum 2007) has to be installed on your computer.
- The Peachtree files (not the Peachtree PTB backup) have to be located on your computer
Preparing Your Peachtree Files for Conversion
There are a few things QuickBooks recommends you do before starting the Peachtree-to-QuickBooks conversion process:
- Backup your Peachtree data folder
- For vendor and customer records, you will have to choose either the Peachtree name or the Peachtree ID. QuickBooks recommends using the name field. Either way, make the decision before starting the Peachtree-to-QuickBooks conversion process.
- QuickBooks does not allow duplicate names, so it is helpful to remove duplicate names ahead of time. If you don’t, QuickBooks will add numbers to the end of duplicate records to differentiate between them. You can then edit the names from within QuickBooks at a later time.
- Delete unwanted Peachtree accounts
The Peachtree-to-QuickBooks Conversion Process
Follow the steps below to convert your Peachtree files to a QuickBooks company file:
- Open QuickBooks
- Verify you are in single-user mode. Switch to it if not.
- Update to the latest release of QuickBooks or just set Automatic Update to Off (Help menu > Update QuickBooks > Options tab > set Automatic Update to No).
- Close all applications running on your computer except QuickBooks.
- Download the Peachtree-to-QuickBooks conversion tool
- File > Utilities > Convert > From Peachtree
- Complete the form and click Submit.
- Click Download.
- File > Utilities > Convert > From Peachtree
- Check Launch QuickBooks Conversion Tool, click Finish, and follow the onscreen instructions.
Refer to QuickBooks help for detailed information on exactly what Peachtree information gets converted (most of it does, but there are some exceptions) and information on significant differences between Peachtree and QuickBooks. Simply search on Peachtree in the QuickBooks Help Index.
